Connect with UM Music: Information and Auditions
Have a question? Want some information? Fill out the form below, and we’ll get in touch to be sure you find the information and contacts you need.
You may also use this form to request an audition. An entrance audition is required for admission to any degree program (including the minor) in the Department of Music. Students must demonstrate that they are prepared to major or minor in music and have a principal performing medium (voice, piano, or a band or orchestral instrument that we teach), on which they demonstrate an appropriate level of performance to enter at the college freshman level. This usually requires several years of formal training in a school band, choir or orchestra program, along with private lessons. The entrance audition is a means to evaluate the student not only for technical skill but also for musicianship and musical literacy (including the ability to read music). At the time of the audition, transfer student applicants must provide a listing of repertoire studied in their studio lessons at previous institutions as an additional means to determine studio placement.
Covid-19 restrictions allow us to accept some auditions by video or online via Zoom.
