Micah Everett

Micah Everett is Associate Professor of Music at the University of Mississippi, where he teaches applied trombone, euphonium, and tuba, conducts the trombone ensemble and tuba-euphonium ensemble, and teaches the undergraduate low brass methods course as well as graduate courses in brass literature and brass pedagogy. A Mississippi native, Dr. Everett was first trombonist in the Mississippi Lions All-State Band before attending Delta State University, where he received the Bachelor of Music Education degree, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he received both the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. His primary low brass teachers at the university level were Randy Kohlenberg, Dennis AsKew, and Edward R. Bahr. Prior to joining the Ole Miss faculty in 2012, Everett held teaching positions at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the University of Northern IowaElon University, and UNCG.

A talented multi-instrumentalist, Everett performs regularly as a solo or ensemble musician on alto, tenor, and bass trombones, euphonium, and tuba in a variety of genres. He is currently principal trombonist in the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, trombonist in the Mississippi Brass Quintet, bass trombonist in the Great River Trombone Quartet, and an S.E. Shires trombone artist.. He is a past Eastern Trombone Workshop solo competition winner and Fellow at the Alessi Seminar, and has performed more than twenty times as a featured soloist with bands Micah Everett, Euphonium, 2010and orchestras both domestically and overseas. He has appeared as clinician, soloist, or conductor at the International Trombone Festival, the American Trombone Workshop, the International Tuba-Euphonium Conference, the annual Trombonanza festival in Santa Fe, Argentina, and numerous regional conferences and workshops. His first solo recording, Stepping Stones for Bass Trombone, Vol. 1, was released by Potenza Music, and in 2017 he was awarded an Artist Fellowship by the Mississippi Arts Commission.

Everett is an active member of the International Trombone Association, currently serving as Assistant Editor (Audio/Video Reviews) for the ITA Journal. He serves as Mississippi Chairperson for the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, and is a member of the International Tuba-Euphonium Association, the Historic Brass Society, and the Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi, and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies. His arrangements for brass soloists and ensembles have been published by Potenza MusicCimarron Music Press and TAP Music, and his articles and reviews have appeared in the International Trombone Association Journal, the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors JournalThe Instrumentalist, and School Band and Orchestra Magazine. His blog, The Reforming Trombonist, is read weekly by hundreds of visitors from around the world. Everett’s first book, The Low Brass Player’s Guide to Doubling, was published by Mountain Peak Music in 2014.

In addition to his many professional activities, Everett is a member of Christ Presbyterian Church and is President of the Oxford Camp of The Gideons International. In 2011 he received a Certificate in Systematic Theology from Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. His articles and reviews on theological and devotional topics have appeared in Modern ReformationPuritan Reformed Journal, and The Banner of Sovereign Grace Truth.
